Who is UCTC?

United Citizens of Tazewell County

We are a growing group of Tazewell County citizens working to protect our farmland and rural neighbors for future generations.

Members of your community are working together to address concerns of the rapidity with which industrial wind turbines are developing across the state. This group is working together to protect Tazewell County citizens, communities and agricultural land for future generations. Recently, our work has been directed toward creating an ordinance that considers everyone's interests in the construction of new Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS), including adequate protection of public health and safety and protecting private property rights.

We have worked to create transparency as we express our concerns with industrial wind turbines and work toward a solution that protects the quality of life we all know and love. This group is made up of landowners, homeowners, and really just any citizen of Tazewell county. We got started because we identified a problem that popped up right in our backyards.

Our group is growing, we started as a couple of concerned landowners with a contract and over time people have reached out to share their knowledge and get more involved. Many of us didn’t know each other well prior to this, but have bonded over shared goals. If you have something to contribute please do not hesitate to reach out. We all pull some of the weight. We all work together. Together we will protect all of Tazewell county.

There are currently three wind energy development companies working in Tazewell County: EDP, Invenergy, and ZEP. They are diligently working in the areas of Hopedale, Armington, Mackinaw, Minier, Tremont, and Delavan to have landowners lease their land to the developers for industrial wind projects. The goal of UCTCIL in proposing a new WECS ordinance for Tazewell County is to assure the protection of health, safety, welfare, property rights and values of Tazewell County residents and landowners. UCTCIL is striving to protect Tazewell County's ecological environment and assure that any development and production of wind-generated electricity is safe and effective.
