What is with the 'No Turbine' Signs?
These were initially to show our neighbors that this farm has not signed a contract. We heard from our neighbors way too many times that they were being told :
ALL your neighbors were signed up - FALSE
Your farm will be surrounded by them - FALSE
You are the one holding up this project; everybody else wants them - DEFINITELY NOT
You are running out of time - RED FLAG! Peer pressure for a decision this big?
The contract isn’t going to change: it is the same one that everyone else has already signed - MISLEADING - you have to specifically ask for each provision your neighbor may have gotten added
We wanted our neighbors to know that they have a choice & are not alone. With the information, contract, technology, and protections available today -we are not in favor of signing a lease agreement for our land. From there it grew to people who saw them and wanted to help inform the community and protect their rights.

Where is the targeted Area? Do you Have a map of the project?
All of Tazewell County is a potential target
There are currently 3 wind developers seeking land leases in Tazewell County.
There is land signed up for an expansion of Railsplitter I. This new project will spread east and north of the existing389 ft turbines and consist of 500-600 ft turbines.
A second potential project in the Mackinaw/Minier area stretching into Tremont and Hopedale Townships. Land is signed up south of 122 and north of Rt 9.
The third developer is around Delevan.
It is early in the project timelines and unfortunately, as we have learned more and more about the process, details around the project are rarely shared with the public. It is also not uncommon for a participating land owner to be in the dark about if and were turbines will be placed on their land.
While your home may not be targeted today, with virtually no limitations in our current wind ordinance, it is only a matter of time before another wind project begins.

What is our goal?
We are fighting for our land rights. The current Tazewell County Wind Ordinance is outdated. UCTC filed a petition for improvements to the current county ordinance.
As much as we want to protect our most valuable asset, we also respect your decision to do as you please with yours. We feel that the proposed ordinance protects property and homeowners in Tazewell county, while still allowing those who choose to participate in WECS to do so.
Wind Energy Conversion Systems Proposed Ordinance Purpose:
Assure the protection of health, safety, welfare, and property rights and values of landowners and residents in Tazewell County.
Protect the County’s ecological environment.
Assure that any development and production of wind-generated electricity in Tazewell County is safe and effective.
Facilitate economic opportunities for all County residents.
Promote the supply of wind energy in support of Illinois’ statutory goal of increasing energy production from renewable energy sources.

How can I help?
UNITY IS KEY
We must all work together on this. Wind energy affects a whole community, not just a few landowners.
We are asking our fellow citizens to talk to their neighbor, attend events, and help us to make our voices heard.
We are also seeking monetary donations to help with the expenses we have incurred.
We must tell our story before it is told for us!
-
How can we stop them?
While we cannot control or stop someone from doing something on their land we can dispute an ordinance which allows them to trespass on our land and potentially make our homes unsafe.
As a landowner, you are the best defense for you land - DO NOT sign the contract if you do not want industrial turbines
As a homeowner, do not sign the “good neighbor” agreement.
As a concerned citizen, learn the facts, talk with your neighbors, share this web address.
If you choose to sign a contract and have a turbine on your land it must be done with the approval of all parties that are affected by your decision to do so.

What is a Wind Energy Conversion System? (WECS)
Definition: Wind energy conversion systems (WECS) are designed to convert the energy of wind movement into mechanical power.
AKA: windmills, wind turbine, wind farm
“Wind Farms” are in fact not a farm at all. They are an Industrial PowerPlant.

What is Tazewell County's current wind ordininace?
The current ordinance is 4 pages.
The current setbacks are 750 from dwellings
The current Height limit is based on FAA which is none because FAA doesn’t limit height
Under the current ordinance, all Tazewell County taxpayers will be paying for decommissioning cost in the event the project goes bankrupt in the future.

How tall are these going to be?
Turbines that are being built today are roughly 600 ft. tall. Vestas, a large wind turbine manufacturer, is working on turbines that are over 800 ft tall. There is no way to know for sure how tall these will be because project details are not disclosed, but we are certain that they will be big.
How tall is 600 ft?
The tallest building in Tazewell county is the UAN Senior Citizens Center in Pekin at 182’ tall.
The turbines in Hopedale are 389’
The turbines in Carlock are just over 300’ tall.
A water tower is roughly 150’ tall
